Accumulation is good,
But giving away is better.

Flower and fragrance,
Moon and moonlight,
Beauty and love,
Which is superior and which is inferior,
Who can say!

One is a clouded night and the other is a rainy day.
Even then, this much can be said,
Accumulation is the path and giving away is the goal,
One is the present, the other, the final destiny.
Accumulation is the bank of the river,
Giving away is its current:
The one is limited and the other is limitless.

Fragrance is nothing but the self-sacrifice of
The flower,
Moonlight is nothing but the self-dedication of
The moon,
Love is nothing but the self-surrender of beauty.

The flower is beautiful
Because it fills the world with fragrance;
Moonlight is lovely
Because it sweetens the earth with nectar;
Beauty is attractive
Because it sends thrills of joy to the on-looker
And accumulation is adorable
Only because it gives us an opportunity
For giving away.
