Before the sun goes down,
I have much to say.

Though the clouds are thundering furiously
Over my head,
My little bark is tossing to and fro,
The oars are slipping out of my tired hands,
But before some one sinks my boat,
I have much to say.

Where are you hiding in this palace,
O charmer!
I have spent my whole life searching for you;
My limbs are aching from head to foot,
But before the ray of my consciousness is lost,
I have much to say.

They, who had left me in my childhood,
Again appear before me;
They stretch their trembling arms towards me!
I gaze at them hypnotized.
But, before the poet in me lies down,

I have much to say.
Before the sun goes down,
I have much to say.
